After a long day, your bed should have a soothing environment where you can unwind and relax. Unfortunately, the presence of bed bugs can turn the situation into a stressful and emotional one! Research has shown that after spraying cinnamon-based product, bed bug will tend to avoid the treated area. The bad news is, in the same research, it was found that if bed bugs detect their host, they would disregard the treated area.

Even if cinnamon does help to repel bed bugs away from the area; it does not mean the bed bugs are staying away for good. Bed bugs may just avoid the area where the cinnamon are placed, and they move away and shift around to find another spot in the house suitable for mating and breeding.

Does cinnamon repel bed bugs?

Bed bugs are easily transferred from place to place, from people to people. They are complicated to manage when an infestation occur. Professional pest control help is often required.

Methods which only serve to repel bed bugs are definitely inadequate to deal with an infestation effectively. This is so because cinnamon neither kills nor eliminates bed bugs and their eggs.

Besides cinnamon, other common DIY remedies to repel bed bugs include: – Vaccuuming all your furniture as it can eliminate both bed bugs and their eggs.

  • ‘Sunning’ your mattress and furniture since high heat can kill bed bugs
  • Washing your bed linen and clothes on the high heat setting
  • Spraying essential oils such as tea tree, peppermint and lavendar onto your bed, furniture and clothes. Bed bugs are guided by their sense of smell and the strong scent of essential oil might inferfere with that, thus repelling them from your premises.

How to get rid of bed bugs the proper way

Since DIY pest control approaches can only provide a temporary solution for removing bed bugs from your property, hiring a professional pest control company is essential.
